The speculation around this year's gaming ceremony was significant, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team is likely designing a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths that are viable with a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
