New Year Partygoers Urged to Bundle Up with Wintry Weather Expected Across the UK
Weather experts have indicated an icy start to the new year, with snowfall expected across much of the UK. Revelers have been told to wrap up as sub-zero temperatures are predicted for New Year's Eve.
Celebratory Events Proceed In Spite of Warnings
Edinburgh's famous Hogmanay festivities are expected to take place, unlike last year's calling-off. This proceeds amid advisories for snow across northern Scotland.
"An icy New Year's Eve night for those who are celebrating, so extra layers will be necessary," stated the weather service.
Celebrations Under Mostly Clear but Chilly Skies
In other parts of the UK, the weather is likely to be ideal for fireworks displays, with dry conditions and clear skies. The mercury are expected to be low, meaning warm wraps a necessity, as per forecasters.
Further north, skies will be cloudier, but this is not anticipated to impact visibility for seeing fireworks. "It won't be low cloud, mist or murk, so you should be able to see fireworks, just not stars," commented one forecaster.
Widespread Weather Alerts for Friday
Moving into Friday, weather warnings have been issued for Northern Ireland and stretching from Wales, over the north-west, the West Midlands and all the way to London and most of the south-east of England.

The Mercury Expected to Fall Further
With the start of 2026, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," commented forecaster Simon Partridge. The weather are set to fall even more as snow and gale-force winds are expected to affect the north of the country.
Approximately 10cm of snow is expected to have built up in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the highest roads and hills.
Public Health Alerts Released
In addition, serious cold weather health warnings have been issued for the north-east and north-west of England. These are due to remain in place until noon on 5 January, with temperatures forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Officials stated this meant the weather could to lead to significant impacts across health and social care services. This encompasses a likely increase in the fatality numbers among vulnerable individuals or those aged 65 or over.
