The President Calls Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Members to the White House
Former President Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.
He added that he conversed with her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Shooting
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their honor.
White House Call
The president stated he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the families of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president addressed the press. “And in the same way with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Support
Mourners came together over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to aid policing efforts in Washington DC.
Remembering the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that educators hoped for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, stated to the press. “She was kind, caring and always eager to assist people.”
Service details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Actions and Policy Changes
Authorities have charged a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The incident led the government to suspend asylum processing and halt providing entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey stated on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on the program that she also intended to visit his relatives.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with distinction, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had bravery,” Morrisey told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
