The Reform UK leader Accuses Educators of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues

Nigel Farage has asserted that educators would initiate walkouts within weeks a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “harming young minds” by instructing children that black pupils are victims and white children oppressors.

During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his viewpoint on British schools, stating that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.

“I’m anticipating a teachers’ strike soon after securing a victory,” he remarked during a Q&A session.

“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They are telling an eight-year-old black child that he is oppressed and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this negative culture.”

Reacting to these assertions, Daniel Kebede dismissed the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these right after taking office.

“The politician has crafted his political career on coded rhetoric and now, similar to other figures, he is targeting educators and their unions for a fight,” Kebede stated.

“This is highly reckless. Neither I nor our union – push critical race theory as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”

The party, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.

However, his comments indicated the group would reform the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We have got a massive job with schooling – truly monumental. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, years to turn this around.”

He stated that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.

Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, Farage said: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves rather than what’s happening now where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”

Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and dismissed Farage as “a cheap imitation”.

Farage has accused Kebede of being “an avowed radical” … an individual intent that our children should be poisoned at school, their thinking tainted regarding national issues” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate youth opposed to his party.

Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.

National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 caused widespread disruption in educational institutions and millions of days of lost learning for students.

At the US event, Farage also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the Christian college in the UK. He said such groups were “key to resistance”, noting: “I mean this. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of young people to your online courses. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”

The college, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. It offers these excellent programs for no charge to all who wish to learn.”
